Match Report
Wellington College 1st vs  British Schools Winter Open
On: Saturday, 01 Dec 2018
Venue: Away

One of the most contested events in the schools shooting calendar, The British Schools Winter Open, 22 schools with 228 competitors shooting 40 shots each at 50 metres, all hosted and run by Wellington College shooters who also compete.

An early start saw Wellington first to the range at Bisley to begin preparations and open the firing. Within an hour all 39 electronic targets were in use with the first 8 schools to arrive feeding their firers through with coaches and shooting masters taking direction from the Wellington staff and OWs. The Wellington team opened strongly and rapidly knowing that range space would become a premium and that stats needed to be commenced as soon as possible.

With some fine shooting in the bag it became a matter of processing all the scores, over 9000 individual shots, and keeping the individual targets fully occupied to ensure everyone got their allocated course of fire completed.

A hectic day but well run saw results produced on time and Wellington shooters establishing themselves among the best. Freddie Lawry (Bl), Amren Singh (H), James Oakland (S) and Chris Vonchek (T) all winning their age categories with Singh and Egor Vert (R) getting gold in the junior pairs.

More medals in the senior pairs, Ed Atkins (R) and Vonchek again with Oscar Farrell leading the fours team into silver medal position. The main event, the team of VIII, won by Wellington in the previous 7 years now became an 8 year winning streak whilst James Oakland outshone everyone to take the individual title. Not far behind were Oscar Farrell, Amren Singh, Chris Vonchek and Max Heeschen (Bl). A fine performance by all establishing Wellington shooters once more the team to beat.
