Sports Report & Video Round-Up

Highlights from the weekend can be seen here.

Many congratulations to Sam Curran and Morgan Lake (OW) who have been shortlisted for this year’s BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year. A remarkable achievement.

Cadet Riding Event

Cadet Annabelle Turner and Cadet Georgia Hockenhull represented the South East Cadet team at the Honourable Artillery Company International Uniformed Services Show at the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery barracks in Woolwich. Cadet Georgia Hockenhull was presented with Best Cadet Rider for the entire competition, so huge congratulations to her, she rode fantastically well. Both cadets represented Wellington in true form.

Some excellent rugby performances midweek with the 1st and 2nd XV traveling to Coventry to play Sedbergh on Wednesday evening. Reported to be the best two rugby schools in the country by many and the games did not disappoint. Committed and exciting performances by all involved ended in a win for the 2nd XV and the 1st XV losing with the last kick of the game. The U15s continued their winning ways in the Nat West Cup with a 56- 5 win. Well done to all involved.

Seniors, juniors and Girls squads took part in a block fixture against LWC on Thursday. Senior Boys - Our second team played their first team and lost 2 – 3 in a very good match. The JCs won 5 - 0 and are fast becoming a force to be reckoned with as their undefeated season continues.

A special mention to the U14Bs v Epsom who were amazing on Saturday. With an ill keeper and a late push back away they were still so enthusiastic. They won 7-0 and expressed an excellent attitude throughout.

Congratulations to the U16s Indoor Squad who won the regional heats on Sunday and now progress to the South Finals next weekend.

Good luck also to our U14 & U16 squads who are in a 4 way play off this week as they compete for a place at next terms Nationals Finals.

Wellington's rowers competed at Burway Small Boats Head. Alastair Morrison and Will Churcher achieved good times in single sculls, and the girls' quad made a promising racing debut. Overall a good foundation laid in the first competition of the year.

Cross Country

The cross country team took to Harrow for the final race of 2015. We placed 6th overall in some tough competition and a special mention to Oli Strode who ran up an age group in the inters.

Inter House

Congratulations to all those that played their part in making the first stages of the House Rugby such a success on Saturday.

Congratulations also to the Senior Boys Basketball Winners - Hardinge

Teams of the Week

The Girls Squash team enjoyed a terrific victory over Lord Wandsworth on Thursday afternoon. Their 5-0 success was the sweeter as it (more than) reversed a narrow loss last year, and came soon after a well-earned victory over Cranleigh a fortnight before. The best sporting values were on show: determination on the court and warm hospitality in the gallery.

After a tough fixture on Thursday against Teddies, the 1st Xl hockey team put in an outstanding performance to run out 4- 0 winners against Epsom. The team pressed with incredible energy and discipline and were dynamic and clinical on the ball. The performance is something the girls can be particularly proud of and is a result of hours of hard work on the training pitch.
